At Edgewater Artists in Motion, we do everything in our power to bring more art to more people in our neighborhood. One way we do that is through our public art program. Artists can display their art temporarily with the help of local business owners who want to rent out their window displays. It's a win for local artists, local business, and the members of the public who get to experience a new work of art for themselves.
Benefits for the Community
Our public art projects are great for our local community here in Chicago. We know that walking by window displays full of beautiful artwork can really lift someone's spirit. This was especially true when we started our public artworks initiative. These displays were placed in empty store fronts during tough economic times. Walking through a neighborhood with closing stores can be a downer, but seeing a beautiful work of art in an empty storefront can brighten your day and show that better times are ahead for your neighborhood.
Even as the economy improved, we continued with our temporary art displays in windows all over the neighborhood. Just because times have gotten better, that doesn't mean that you can't still discover a new artist that you love. Plus, these displays make more people realize how important the arts are and can help give art programs more time in the spotlight.

Benefits for Artists
Of course, our public art displays bring benefits for the artists as well. When artists participate in these displays, they get to sell their work of art to a new customer. Through this public art program, they can find more business opportunities in the city of Chicago. Any time the public gets to see more of an artist's work, it's good for everyone involved.
We're also working on a new public art program that would help fund new projects around Edgewater. Whether you're an established artist or just trying to show off your first completed piece, we want to help. We want to make sure that people know that Chicago is a city for artists.
